I took a picture of Katy Grannan for Financial Times. It’s pretty daunting to take a portrait of a such an excellent portraitist. We intended to shoot on the streets of LA to reference Katy’s work to some degree, but we were rained out (in the city of sunshine) so we had to make do in my hotel room without much time. Big thanks to photo editor Emma Bowkett.

Damien “World’s Richest Living Artist” Hirst is expanding his historic home facing London’s tony Regent’s Park, though you won’t notice much of a change at street level. That’s because the spot-master is building the enormous complex underneath his half-acre garden. Once completed, it will include a sauna, a steam room, a two-story-tall “art room,” a cargo elevator capable of lifting large-scale artworks weighing up to 11 tons, and an 82-foot-long swimming pool — that’s almost long enough to acc...

My name is Maggie Fallis and I am a freelance photographer and traveler, currently living in the dead-center of America (sadly) working in a darkroom hours upon hours, I have already spent a good chunk of my life in the dark. The light studio I work in is practically my home. I am constantly creating new projects there. I want to show people how beautiful the world really is, and how beautiful the people in it really are; without it looking like every other landscape/portrait taken. Come...

While these illustrated insects appear incredibly lifelike, Dutch artist, Nicolaas Struyck, likely worked from dead specimens that had been a part of a wealthy person’s “curiosity cabinet” collection. Through the 17th and 18th centuries, collecting exotic flora and fauna became a way to emote status among the elite. We know that the rare long horned beetle is native to Indonesia, which was a Dutch colony in Struyck’s time. The creature was likely brought to the Netherlands where it would h...
