Beili Liu: After All / Mending the Sky, 2017 After All / Mending The Sky is comprised of nine suspended, organic, translucent cloud-like forms, each composed of numerous delicate half domes crafted from raw silk fiber. These domes or “stones” have been imprinted upon using Cyanotype process to lend rich indigo tones to their forms, from which hundreds of fine sewing threads descend. Hands down the most handy study in the collection. This was made as a preparatory drawing for now-lost ceiling mural in the Hôtel de Guise, Paris. Its design has been reconstructed through descriptions, prints, and studies like this one.

Tallest Residential Tower in the Western Hemisphere by Leidy Churchman depicts the view from 432 Park Avenue, a 1,396-foot-high luxury condo completed in 2015. While the tower has been heralded as a marvel of contemporary engineering, it has also sparked outcry over its impact on the NYC skyline and the stratospheric cost of its apartments. The artist based the painting on a rendering he found on the developer’s website.
