The Cerro Piloto housing group, Caracas, Venezuela (circa 1957). Designed by Guido Bermudez, this group of social housing blocks were built to replace the shanty town on the side of the hill on which the blocks now occupy. Squatters were given the opportunity to live in the blocks, however, attitudes towards the blocks were generally unfavourable. Many chose not to live there as they were more suited to low rise properties, so 4 storey blocks were built around 1958.

Ashoka Estate, New Delhi, India (built 1972-4) Designed by Achyut P. Kanvinde, the organisation of the service cores around the exterior of the office building allows for the flexible subdivision of the internal space as well as creating a massive monolithic form.

Churchill Gardens, Pimlico, London (circa 1952). Designed by Philip Powell and Hidalgo Moya, this was the largest social housing scheme under construction at the time in Westminster. It is a collection of long blocks up to 9 storeys in height set within a landscaped, garden environment, contrasting the 200 persons per acre density.
