In the 9th century, the Banū Mūsā brothers in Baghdad designed a mechanical, hydraulic organ that was made to play endlessly by itself. This innovative machine is described in a recently published book which accompanies an exhibition currently on view ZKM (Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe) in Germany, where there’s even a reconstruction of the Banū Mūsā music automaton, seen here!

Initially, this project was meant to create optimistic images that could give hope to any queer person yearning for love, especially in Singapore, where being queer is still being frowned upon and gay sex is still criminalized. As this project was based off a simulated r...

FEATURED ARTIST: Andrea Kvas  Andrea Kvas’s work merges an instinctive and playful approach to painting with an analysis and reconsideration of the codes that distinguish this discipline. Radicalizing, deconstructing and reconstructing in particular the relationship between paint and supports, his pictorial research calls for different fruition schemes; an attitude that led Kvas to find intersections with sculptural and relational practices. Painting is not intended merely as an object of conte...
