For more than 25 years, Thomas Annan ranked as the premier photographer of Glasgow’s 19th century industrial boom. During this period of rapid growth and change in Scotland, he documented the citizens, social landscape, and the built environment of the city. These haunting images of tenements on the verge of demolition are now considered precursors of the documentary photography tradition. Thomas Annan: Photographer of Glasgow is on view at the Getty Center through August 13, 2017.
