For Chemi Rosado-Seijo’s contribution to the 2017 Biennial, a gallery from the exhibition has been “moved” to the Lower Manhattan Arts Academy (LOMA), a public high school on the Lower East Side, while a classroom from the school has been moved to the Museum. Works by Biennial artists Sky Hopinka and Jessi Reaves are on view at LOMA, and you can visit on Saturdays and Sundays, 12–5 pm, through June 11. Details at whitney.org.[Photograph by Filip Wolak]

Hi, my name is Xavier Bemelmans. I’m an amateur photographer based in Liège, Belgium. I recently sold my digital camera to focus on film only and i really enjoy it ! I can’t stop staring and analysing people around me… I guess that’s why I mostly make street/daily life portraits. Oh, and I try to travel as much as i can so I also have a plenty of travel shots.

Nikon has been my camera brand of choice since the beginning, so I was absolutely honoured to be interviewed by them. Thanks Nikon Asia! There is a certain zen that comes with Jennilee Marigomen. Her works are familiar but ethereal. Her eyes have evolved to see the beauty in the mundane around her, allowing her to get lost in her own senses. She reveals the iridescent nature of our everyday. Some photographers travel to faraway places or put themselves in extreme situations to get up close with...

#ThrowbackThursday In March 2014, we presented Five (The Drawing Center) by #RashaadNewsome which introduced one of the three commissioned works that articulated important intersections among performance, time-based performances, and visual art. Newsome explored his ongoing fascination with vogue, a dance form that evolved in Harlem’s gay ballroom scene in the 1960s and 1970s. Created by Newsome along with New York-based vogue dancers and musicians, including renowned opera signer #StefanosKor...

Life is a Time-Based Medium Life Is a Time-Based Medium (2015)—the most recent work included in the exhibition,  Diana Thater: The Sympathetic Imagination—was filmed at the Galtaji Temple (a Hindu pilgrimage site) in Jaipur, India. A monumental installation, it conflates the projected architecture of the temple with that of the gallery in which it is shown. Focusing on the behavior of the resident monkeys, Thater’s work questions distinctions between the tame and wild by reference to the div...

Courtesy of the artist. This piece is part of our Who Are You? exhibit in our Port to Learning Gallery (On display through March 13, 2016). “Being an artist is a super core identity. I think it’s as core as your gender. Just like you know if you are male or female or neither or both, you also know if you are an artist. That’s what I am. My gender is art. As an artist, I have to make things. Largely, the things I make are pictures but I also...
