thestateae: A gap in the trees fells the horizon at a precipitous curve, revealing the first splendid glimpse down to Danau Toba. Five hours of traffic jams, confined, contorted by baggage, squirming for shade – all is forgotten. Abundant greens and blues, a promised land. Majestic, alien; Sumatra’s crowning jewel and the largest volcanic lake in the world.A low thump as truck clips motorbike. Spectators shouting, concerned driver spilling from yellow stopped on narrow tarmac. Chain visible, en...

Our install crew moves mountains to get the #NewSFMOMA exhibition-ready. And we’re happy to see Franz Marc’s kaleidoscopic mountain range return — especially for today, his birthday! This painting, Steiniger Weg (Stony Path), formerly Gebirge/Landschaft (Mountains/Landscape) is a fusion of influences from Orphism, Cubism, and Futurism, and was actually repainted after Marc visited Robert Delaunay in Paris in 1912. Jason Koxvold - Everything, and nothing, 2008-2014“So you are here, and I am here, spending our time as we must, it must be spent. I am trying not to spend this time, as I spend most of my time, trying to get you to like me; trying to control your thoughts, to use my voodoo at the speed of light, the speed of sound, the speed of thought, trying to convince you that your two hours with me are not going to be resented afterwards.
